My Soda Kicks Your Pop's Can
The age-old debate has some "scientific" support.
Soda Vs. Pop Vs. Coke stats by region.
Personally I've always (and will always) call it soda. I'll also call the highway the freeway and refer to certain sections as THE 10 or THE 40.
Notice how the trendsetting regions prefer Soda over pop? I once stayed with a couple in Illinois who called it sodee pop.

I grew up calling it all "Coke". Now I usually either call it by name, or offer them a "Soft drink". In your case, I'd ask you to do the snigglet.
Very interesting map. I grew up In St. Louis (America's most dangerous city - that's why I'm so hard, G) where everyone called soft drinks "soda."
Of course, my dad worked most of his life at Pepsi; so calling it Coke wouldn't have been an option anyway.
Coke was the enemy in our household. I couldn't even buy one of those Coca-Cola rugby shirts that all the cool kids wore in middle school.
But I digress...
Thanks for restarting this great debate. It's like I'm in the HU cafeteria all over again.
By the way, what's up with the Indianapolis area using the term Coke? Did they forget they're on the right side of the Mason-Dixon?
I always grew up calling everything coke. Typical beverage-related exchange:
Person 1: You want a coke to drink?
Person 2: Sure, what do you have?
Person 1: Um, let's see...Coke, Dr. Pepper and Pepsi.
Person 2: Anything but Pepsi.
I can't imagine living in a place where people say "coke" and are only specifically referring to "Coca Cola Classic". Weirdos.
But as for me and my house, we shall call it POP. Midwest, represent!
P.S. What would the "other" category be??

Some good news, though: According to the site, "Pop" won with nearly 40% of all responses.
Some of the more common "other" responses: soda pop, soft drink, carbonated beverage, cola.
